ENHANCE - European Universities of Technology Alliance is funded by the European Universities Initiatives 2019 call and gathers ten of Europe's top highly Research-Intensive Technical Universities. In addition to Politecnico di Milano, the Alliance includes: Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden), Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (Switzerland), Gdansk University of Technology (Poland), Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway), RWTH Aachen (Germany), Technische Universität Berlin (Germany), Technische Universiteit Delft (The Netherlands), Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), Warsaw University of Technology (Poland). The Alliance network is enriched by several associated partners including numerous industries, research organisations, local authorities and third sector associations.

The long-term goal of ENHANCE is to create a European academic space for interaction between technological progress, society and the environment. The project is based on socially inclusive and sustainable research and education in the field of science and new technologies, inter- and trans-disciplinary approaches and new systems of knowledge co-creation.

In the short term, the main aim of the Alliance is to design and realise a European higher education area free of physical and bureaucratic barriers. Within this space, students, professors, researchers and other staff will be able to move freely, enriching their education, developing new skills, intercultural sensitivity and capacity for innovation, as if they were part of a single European institution: One Campus.

Within ENHANCE, Politecnico di Milano is responsible for the Work Package European Education Pathways, whose main aim is to foster the mobility and international experiences of students, researchers, professors and other staff through:

  • the creation of an integrated educational offer between the 10 Universities in the Alliance, with an increasing number of pilot programmes that will be added to the 4 that are already active: Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Energy Engineering, Urban Planning. The system will allow students to choose the courses to take in order to obtain their degree, regardless of where they will be delivered
  • facilitation of Erasmus exchange mobility between the Alliance Universities through enhanced credit recognition systems and the reduction of administrative and bureaucratic barriers
  • free access to the services and infrastructures of partner Universities also through tools that have already been implemented at the European level, such as the European Student Card and Erasmus Without Paper
  • access to innovative international experiences consisting of new ENHANCE teaching and educational pathways, including summer/winter schools, virtual and blended courses, micro-credentials

From the ENHANCE alliance came the ENHANCERIA project, funded under the Horizon 2020 programme and aimed at building effective cooperation between science and society through the development of innovative methodologies and new skills.

ENHANCERIA intends to support and strengthen research and innovation in the framework of the ENHANCE University Alliance, helping it to develop a transformation agenda focusing on the role of Universities as drivers of sustainable development.
