Humboldt Research Award 2025 to Pierangelo Metrangolo
The prestigious Humboldt Research Award 2025 has been awarded to Professor Pierangelo Metrangolo, a faculty member of Chemical Foundations of Technologies at Politecnico di Milano.
The award, granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, honors the entire scientific career of researchers of international renown and supports excellence across all disciplines and nationalities, promoting global scientific cooperation.
As the recipient, Pierangelo Metrangolo will undertake research projects in collaboration with colleagues in his field in Germany. In particular, he will join the Freie Universität Berlin for collaborative research on supramolecular chemistry and the biological interactions of fluorinated compounds.
The award ceremony will take place between March and April 2026, in the presence of the President of the Foundation and the President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Pierangelo Metrangolo is a full professor of Chemical Foundations of Technologies at Politecnico di Milano, where since 2023 he has served as the Rector’s Delegate for Sports Activities. At the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering “Giulio Natta,” he coordinates the Supramolecular and Bio-Nanostructured Materials Laboratory (SBNLab). Since 2016, he has led the Interdepartmental Nanomedicine Laboratory (NanoMedLab), and since 2021, he has been a founding member of the Interdepartmental Next-Generation Advanced Materials Laboratory (Next-GAME) at Politecnico di Milano. His expertise lies in the fields of Crystal Engineering, Supramolecular Chemistry, and Biomimetic Materials, within which he has conducted intensive research with an impact widely recognized at the international level.
